Georgia Northwestern Technical College hosted an Open House and Ribbon Cutting ceremony for their EarthCraft Education Project on Wednesday, November 19, 2014. The ceremony consisted of a brief presentation of the project and a ribbon cutting for the project’s two model homes.
So what is so special about these two houses that the students of GNTC built?
The regular house they build uses standard specifications; this includes common air leaks, traditional construction, old appliances, water heater, and an 80 percent efficient gas furnace. The two houses were built by GNTC students as part of the Residential Energy Efficiency Technology program.
One of the houses is extremely energy efficient while the other is just a regularly built house. The energy efficient home is built under new green and energy efficient specifications which use unique materials and techniques with EarthCraft House ratings.
So what does AquaGuard have to do with this? AquaGuard helped make the energy efficient home a reality. We donated supplies and manpower to the energy efficient home’s crawlspace. A home is not truly functioning correctly if its crawlspace is dirty, dusty, damp, or humid. AquaGuard installed products to make sure the crawlspace was functioning as efficient as possible…thus, the home would be functioning as efficient as possible.
For a year, GNTC students will be monitoring the humidity and temperatures of this home’s attic and crawlspace to test if their ‘efficient’ house was actually efficient. AquaGuard was proud to be a part of this extraordinary project and we hope for the best for the students at Northwestern Technical College.
